Our memories are an integral part of who we are, but as we age our memory declines. For many older adults, the decline becomes so serious that they’re no longer able to live independently, which is one of the biggest fears adults have as they age.
The good news is that scientists have been learning more about our brain’s amazing capacity to change and grow new neural connections each day, even in old age.
This concept is known as neuroplasticity. Through research on neuroplasticity, scientists have discovered that our memory capacity isn’t fixed, but rather malleable like plastic.
Keep in mind these tips if you are looking to improve your memory and your learning process.
1. SLEEP ENOUGH
Getting enough sleep is necessary for our memory, especially getting in REM sleep which comes later on as you sleep at night. You should idealy get atleast 6 hours of sleep per night. Science has proven that during REM sleep, the things you have learnt are being stored and memorized.
2. EAT WELL
Eating well will help you to be more aware and much more focused. You will feel fresh and more awake. Good nutrition will make you feel better and therefore even your memory will improve. Eat well! Live well!!
